All agents with an active license are required to purchase Errors and Omission (E&O) Insurance. To learn more, sign up, check on your status, make changes, or need additional help, please access the E&O page within the agent portal here. Link: https://mygficonnect.com/pages/eando
E&O insurance helps protect you and your business litigation if a customer sues you for a mistake in your professional services. This will help with legal fees and pay for claims that may be filed against you. This ultimately safeguards against financial damages arising from an alleged error or omission you may make while rendering your professional services. GFI E&O insurance is required by our Product Providers and accessible through the GFI platform. Non-GFI E&Os will not be accepted except for New York's E&Os. Therefore, without GFI E&Os, you'll be putting your business at risk, be noncompliant, and have commissions suspended until resolved. The E&O fee is $35 monthly, $105 quarterly, or $420 annually and must be set up for recurring payment.Once complete, you'll receive your 2 page E&O via email along with the next steps.
If you do not have active E&Os, either due to failed payment or cancelation, you'll be subject to the risk above and your commissions will be held until all past E&O is brought current and E&O subscription is active. Delay in 3 months of E&O coverage will terminate your GFI agent agreement and all carrier appointments.
We want to highlight the most common issues encountered during the Errors & Omissions (E&O) purchase process to ensure a smooth experience:
Complete full legal name is required.Provide your correct NPN which can be found here.Avoid using agent codes in place of legal names.Ensure accurate spelling of names.Use legal names, not aliases.Fill out all required fields completely.Regularly check spam folders for important communications.
Your attention to these points will help streamline the process and prevent delays.NOTE: Choose your recurring billing below:Need to make changes to your billing address or form of payment on file? Use Stripe's customer portal here.Need additional help? Any request or questions regarding E&O, including "Did I Sign Up Already???", please send email to [email protected]

Common signup issuesICA & Pre-Licensing Refunds
GFI's Signup Portal can be found here. Best Practice during the sign up process is to remind your future agents to store their email and password used during SignUp. This will help them to sign into the agent portal quicker and revisit the application again if needed."Invalid credentials" ErrorWhen continuing an application, they'll need their email and password used during the initial signup attempt, even if they didn't finish the application. This is for the future agent's own protection. NOTE: Once they provided their name, email, password, phone number, and SSN and hit "Continue", it'll lock it in. When they sign back in, they'll continue where they left.If the agent forgot their application's password, they must email [email protected] from the email used requesting their password."Signup application already exists for the specified tax ID" ErrorThis means the agent already utilized the application. Go back to the start to 'Continue the Application' here. Provide the email and password during the initial attempt. If the agent forgot their application's password, they must email [email protected] from the email used requesting their password."Email already used in another signup" ErrorThis means the agent already utilized the application. Go back to the start to 'Continue the Application' here. Provide the email and password during the initial attempt. If the agent forgot their application's password, they must email [email protected] from the email used requesting their password."Did not receive a Welcome Email"This means their email was entered incorrectly twice or invalid. This is surprisingly common due to the browser's autocorrect and autofill features. If you suspect you have made this error:
verify the email is still working and valid by logging into it directly. This happens when someone creates a new email (i.e. Gmail) just to use for GFI but did not activate it fully.follow up with the Recruiter for they also get an email with the email address used.follow up with the Executive Marketing Director for they also get an email with the email address used.send an email to [email protected] providing your name and correct email to use.WORK-AROUND: you can also use your agent code as the login until your email is fixed.
"Payment is Denied"These are the most common issues, mostly due to not matching what's on file with their card issuer:
Full NameAddress / ZipEmail Address (may be different than SignUp email)Insufficient Funds
Most card issuers may send you an email, text message, or call to confirm the transaction. Once you approve, you should be able to re-submit successfully. If your card issuer did not, contact the number on the back of the card and request approval.
Any new agents that request refunds on their ICA will be charged to their EMDs.We want to promote proper recruiting practices so refunds will be subtracted from the EMD's commission. This compensation adjustment will be applied retroactively to cover 2024 and 2025 to date.Additionally, if any agents sign up twice for pre-licensing, the additional vendor charge will also roll up to the EMD and will be taken from the EMD's commission.

The following outlines our policy on transferring inactive agents.Agents at the SMD level or below qualify for an Inactivity Transfer after 12 months.
Agents at the EMD level or above qualify after 24 months.Any outstanding debit balance will follow the agent upon transfer. The agent must remain inactive until official confirmation is received that the transfer has been completed.Inactivity Requirements
To be eligible, an inactive agent must have:
No new licensesNo new carrier appointmentsNo new business submissionsNo personal pointsNo personal recruits
Participating in any of the above would consider the agent as being active.
We are unable to merge two codes into one and reflect it on the Leaders Bulletin. A couple should decide on which code their business will be operated under as soon as possible. Once it's chosen, make sure the contract level is correct and use that code for all future business. This request should be made to [email protected] a week before the end of the month, so that is can be applied by the next month's first pay cycle.
EMD Exemption form, proof of previous 1099 income, and if previously at a competing company proof of resignation. EMD Exemption form can be found with your upline EMD.
Can both spouses be merged under one agent code?
Each spouse must maintain separate agent codes. There is no concept of merging of codes.
My spouse has recently joined the business, and I am an EMD. Can we both be EMDs under the same code?
Only one person can hold the EMD designation per code. The other spouse can attain an MD designation. If you wish to make any changes, starting this process at the very beginning of the month is advisable. If you choose do do this after the 1st of the month, your points will fall off the leaderboard.
What will happen to the points under the my code once we transition business under my spouse?
All the points prior to the transition date will not show up under base, super base, and super team. They will show under personal for all the agents, there will be some manual work needed to add these points properly and to ensure points are not double counted.
What is the recommended process for transitioning my code to my spouse, who is now part it is advisable to start this process at the beginning of the month of the business?
- Notify the Coding Department 3 to 5 business days in advance to ensure a smooth transition. This helps in the accurate reflection of points in the system.
- The best time for this transition is at the very start of the month.
- Please send your request to [email protected]. Additionally, copy your direct EMD in the email to keep them informed.
Only EMDs and above are authorized to be co-lead and co-lead with another EMD and above agent. Access the Co-Leadership request form in your EMD forms tab on your mygficonnect portal. All requests to Co-lead will be submitted to the CEO for approval.
The requirements needed for promotion can be found within your agent portal.Advancement Guidelines Recruiter Code Correction FormThe primary goal of this form is to correct unintentional coding errors or instances where an incorrect recruiter code was used during registration, resulting in the agent being placed under the wrong upline.By submitting a request through this form, both the requesting agent and the current upline acknowledge and agree to the following conditions:
The agent was incorrectly assigned due to the use of an incorrect agent code. The current upline agrees that this was an error and supports the correction.Any false or misleading information will result in the request being denied and may lead to further action. All information provided must be accurate and complete.Approval is subject to internal review and compliance verification. The company reserves the right to approve or modify the request based on applicable policies. This form must not be used as a means to transfer an agent to another team for any reason outside of an unintentional coding error. Misuse of this form or providing false information may result in further administrative action.
If an agent requires a correction of their recruiter code, they should follow these steps:
The recruiter must contact their EMD to request a Recruiter Code Correction for the recruiter code update.Ensure that all provided information is accurate, including both the recruiter's details, recruiter code, and the agent who is being placed under another upline. All involved agent details must be correct and verifiable in the system.Correction forms must be submitted within 7 days of the ICA to be considered for approval. Only requests submitted within this 7-day timeframe will be processed. Requests exceeding this timeframe may not be processed and will require an NVP request to submit another form.
Any missing or incorrect information provided on the form will not be processed and will require resubmission with the correct details.By following this process, agents and leaders help maintain accuracy and transparency in hierarchy placements while ensuring compliance with company policies.

SureLC "Platinum Provider Appointment Fee"
SureLC requires an industry standard registration and appointment fee to utilize their system. The fee covers an agent's appointments to all platinum providers with SureLC. GFI has made arrangements to prevent up-front costs to the agent by deferring the payment and drafting from their commissions. This is a one time fee of $85 and will appear as an adjustment labeled "Platinum Provider Appointment Fee" on the commission statement.

Definition: A JIT appointment means that an agent gets appointed precisely when they have business ready to be submitted.Timing: It's not an instantaneous process. The appointment happens at the point of need—when there is actual business to be submitted.Purpose: This approach ensures that the appointment process is efficient and aligns with the immediate needs of the business, avoiding premature or unnecessary appointments.

Can Ethos solicit my clients?
Your client is your client. It’s not necessary for you to share any of your client information or client lists with Ethos. Client data that you own will always remain yours and at no point will Ethos ever require it. Ethos will not sell your client information to other companies.Any application that Ethos receive through your unique agent URL will be attributed to you. We provide you with a custom link so that you can market directly to your clients. As long as your customers use that link to complete and submit the application, you will receive attribution.Ethos will help you by continuing to provide support to your client, such as following up on an incomplete app. But Ethos doesn't intentionally solicit your clients or attempt to sell them third-party products that may compete with your product offerings, either before or after activating a policy. In the scenario any of your clients or their referrals purchases a policy from Ethos, you will be attributed and credited with the sale. If your client refers another client from their member portal or another Ethos tool, Ethos automatically send your unique agent link to the referral. Once the referral signs up with that link, they will be automatically attributed to you. There are two ways in which your client could share their data with Ethos directly:
Ethos markets their products broadly to consumers via a range of online and offline channels. As a result, it’s possible your client will see and respond to direct Ethos advertising, but we never target individuals based on their relationship with you. Occasionally, a client starts an application using your unique agent URL, leaves before completing it, and then returns directly to the Ethos website at a later time to complete it and activate the policy. In these instances, Ethos will recognize your client’s email address and redirect them to their prior, incomplete application so that you still receive proper attribution.
If I sign up with Ethos, do I become a captive Ethos agent?
No. Your business remains independent of Ethos. The exclusivity requirement in our agreement applies only to other instant-issue life insurance platforms which primarily do business online. You can continue to offer non-Ethos products and use other insurance platforms freely. Signing up with Ethos will not impact your current carrier relationships, and you are free to continue selling products on behalf of traditional carriers.
About Ethos Who is Ethos?
Ethos is a next-generation insurtech company offering life insurance products that can be found online. The 100% online application takes just minutes, many policies are issued same-day, and there are no medical exams required—just a few health questions. Is Ethos an insurance company?
Ethos is a licensed agency that provides producer, underwriting, and third-party administrator (TPA) services. We're not a carrier, but we contract directly with top-tier carriers to provide policies on the carrier’s paper through our site, ethoslife.com.What makes Ethos different?
We’ve built an industry-leading product that is transforming the industry with our 100% online sales platform. Ethos’ proprietary underwriting engine algorithmically assigns each customer to the appropriate product so applicants can get the coverage that best fits their unique needs as fast as possible. We also make it easy for insurance agents to build their business with Ethos life insurance through a 100% online sales platform. Why should I work with Ethos?
We make it fast and easy to sell even more life insurance, with instant underwriting, zero case management for you, and a 90% approval rate. Ethos offers a low barrier to entry for P&C agents looking to cross-sell and a great way for agents specializing in life insurance to accelerate their business. How is Ethos structured?
Ethos is a producer and third party administrator who underwrites policies on behalf of our carrier partners. You and your client will interact primarily with us, while our carriers issue the actual policies.Where is Ethos based?
Ethos employs more than 300 employees in offices in San Francisco, Austin, and Singapore. And we’re continuing to grow. How do I get in contact with Ethos?
Click “Contact Us” anytime on the agent portal. If we’re not available to talk right then, please leave your message and we’ll get back to you as quickly as possible. Are non-citizens eligible for life insurance through Ethos?
U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents residing in the U.S. for the past 6 months are eligible to apply. Legal permanent residents should respond to the 'Place of birth' question with the name of the state in which they've been residing for the past 6+ months.
Can an unlicensed agent sell insurance?
Ethos requires that any agent who sells, solicits, or negotiates insurance must have a valid insurance license. There are two requirements:
The agent must have a license for the type of business being sold (for example, a life license for life insurance, health license for accidental death, etc.).That license must be active at the time of sale in the state where the applicant resides.Must be contracted with Ethos through GFI
Each time a policy is activated, Ethos will confirm the agent’s status.Who can Ethos pay commissions to?
Ethos pays commissions, or any compensation related to activation of a policy, only to agents with a valid license in the state where the applicant resides at the time of sale. What if an unlicensed downline agent is involved in the sale of a policy?
An unlicensed agent should never sell, solicit, or negotiate an insurance policy. Where there are multiple levels of agents affiliated with a sale and one or more downline agents aren’t licensed, commissions will only be paid to the validly licensed parent agent or agency. What is the difference between referral fees and commissions?
The terms are similar, but Ethos uses the term “Referral Fees” in our producer agreements to describe compensation paid to life licensed agents who successfully refer Ethos products to potential customers. Carriers pay Ethos commissions directly, and Ethos then passes along a portion of the commissions as referral fees to agents who refer business to us. Ethos does not pay any commissions or referral fees to unlicensed agents.Policy activations tied to the agent result in referral fees based on agreements in place between the agent and Ethos if they’re independent, or between their agency and Ethos. Individual agent referral fees are paid promptly on a weekly basis.Where can I get information about Advanced Pay?
Advanced payment of referral fees is available to certain qualified producers as determined by Ethos in its sole discretion. Additionally, Ethos reserves the right to set and modify the requirements, terms, and tiers applicable to advanced pay in its sole discretion. What is the Amendment to the Producer Agreement?
The Amendment replaces Exhibit B at the bottom of your Terms and Conditions, which has been intentionally left blank. The Amendment contains compensation terms, including your customized referral fee rates and terms of payment. As such, they can only be added to the Ethos Producer Agreement as an Amendment.

Most chargebacks can be self diagnosed from the carrier portal. Look at policy details, activities, payments, correspondence letters to clients, and the original policy for guidance.
If unable to locate any of the information in the carrier's portal, please contact them and confirm the status of EACH payment made and attempted from the client (successful, failed, returned, canceled).
Do NOT just ask if the policy is still active or in good order. That does not address the chargeback, especially if the client resolved before the calling.Carriers will trigger a Chargeback if:
1. payment was returned for any reason (failed, insufficient funds, invalid/wrong banking account #, routing # or type). This may change the billing to direct and remove existing bank info and EFT (see #2)
2. client changes from Monthly/Annual EFT to direct billing and/or quarter/semi billing frequency. Commission will be As-Earned from the carrier.
3. client changes the EFT premium amount OR withdrawal date further out into the future.
4. policy lapsed, canceled, or deactivate during the free look period.Chargebacks happen on annuities too, typically due to the client taking RMD or other personal withdrawals. There is nothing GFI Commissions can do about Chargeback if any of the above happens.
Once the client corrects payment/EFT, it may take up to 10 business days for the carrier to apply and re-advance commissions (Corebridge will be As-Earned).
Contact GFI Commissions 2 weeks after the chargeback correction if funds have not been re-advanced.If any of the items above solved your problem, please let us know.If not, what is the Carrier, Policy Number, Agent Code(s), and Writing Agent Name(s)? Did you receive a direct deposit from us during 2024?If YES, then you'll have a 1009 for the 2024 Tax Year!If NO, then no action is needed on your part since a 1099 will not be generated. 1099 tax forms are sent to an agent's email address on file within their agent portal by the end of January. 1. Check Your Email – Look in the inbox of the email associated with your agent portal.2. Check Your Spam/Junk Folder – If you don’t see it, it may have been filtered there. [UPDATE 3/24- some SPAM boxes auto-delete after 30 days]3. Search Your Email - Subject Line would include "Important: GFI 20xx 1099 Tax Form Enclosed (xxxxx)" where 20xx would be the year and xxxxx is your agent code. Your 1099 is essential for tax filing, as it reports your earnings for the year. Please keep it for your records and provide it to your tax professional if needed.Need Assistance? – If you did not receive your 1099 or need further help, please contact us at [email protected] from the email used in your agent portal and provide your full legal name, agent code, and last 4 digits of your SSN.

Pay cycles are on Tuesdays and Fridays, unless it is a holiday.
The commission payout varies depending on the product. Below is an example on how to calculate commissions for each contract level based on a term product.
For term products the commission formula is:
Annual premium x product payout % = commissionable target (points) x contract level % = commission dollarsNote: Commissionable target is equivalent to points. Example: A gold tier term product with 95.83% payout for a policy of $100 per month:
Representative: $100 x 12 = 1200 x 95.83% = 1149 x 30% = $344.70
Associate: $100 x 12 = 1200 x 95.83% = 1149 x 45% = $517.05
Sr. Associate: $100 x 12 = 1200 x 95.83% = 1149 x 50% = $574.50
Marketing Director: $100 x 12 = 1200 x 95.83% = 1149 x 60% = $689.40
Executive Marketing Director: $100 x 12 = 1200 x 95.83% = 1149 x 80% = $919.20
The commission payout varies depending on the product. Below is an example on how to calculate commissions for each contract level based on an IUL product.
For IUL products the commission formula is:
Target premium x product payout % = commissionable target (points) x contract level % = commission dollarsNote: Commissionable target is equivalent to points. The target premium for an IUL is the the annual premium OR the target premium listed on the illustration, whichever is LESS.
Example: A silver tier IUL product with 83.33% payout for a policy of $500 per month:
Representative: $500 x 12 = 6000 x 83.33% = 4,999 x 30% = $1,499.70
Associate: $500 x 12 = 6000 x 83.33% = 4,999 x 45% = $2,249.55
Sr. Associate: $500 x 12 = 6000 x 83.33% = 4,999 x 50% = $2,499.50
Marketing Director: $500 x 12 = 6000 x 83.33% = 4,999 x 60% = $2,999.40
Executive Marketing Director: $500 x 12 = 6000 x 83.33% = 4,999 x 80% = $3,999.20
The commission payout varies depending on the product. Below is an example on how to calculate commissions for each contract level based on a annuity product.
For annuity products the commission formula is:
Premium x product payout % = commissionable target (points) x contract level % = commission dollarsNote: Commissionable target is equivalent to points.
Example: A platinum tier annuity product with 6.7% payout for a policy with $500,000 in premium:
Representative: $500,000 x 6.7% = 33,500 x 30% = $10,050
Associate: $500,000 x 6.7% = 33,500 x 45% = $15,075
Sr. Associate: $500,000 x 6.7% = 33,500 x 50% = $16,750
Marketing Director: $500,000 x 6.7% = 33,500 x 60% = $20,100
Executive Marketing Director: $500,000 x 6.7% = 33,500 x 80% = $26,800
Each provider has their own respective rules around issuing a policy on yourself or for family members. If this is a concern, please discuss this closely with the provider's new business department.Pending their rules, the policy may pay 'as earned' or delay payout until further investigation is completed by them. Common scenarios include when:
Any writing agent is related to the insuredRelated means self, spouse, or kidsRelation is also a sibling or parentAny writing agent is the policy owner, payee, or a beneficiary
If neither of these items are not a possibility, please contact the provider to understand why the policy is paying 'as-earned.'
In order for the system to pay out the total commission to the field efficiently, the commissions statements are broken out by contract levels.
The payout lines are as follows:
Representative (R) - 30%
Associate (A) - 15%
Senior Associate (SA) - 5%
Marketing Director (MD) - 10%
Executive Marketing Director (EMD) - 20%
You would add up the payout lines to get the total payout for the policy at the contract level.
Example: Associate with 1000 in Commissionable Target would see:
Representative - $300
Associate - $150
Total: $450
1000 x 45% Associate Contract = $450
Any remaining commissions will go to the appropriate uplines as overrides.
So for this same example, if the Associate's direct upline was an MD, they will see the SA and MD payout lines on their commission statement.
Their EMD will see the EMD payout line on their commission statement.
In the adjustment details section, you will see a reserve adjustment, sometimes labeled as cross collateral, this is showing the movement of the reserves going to the the agents reserve balance.
So for a simple example: Your commissions for the cycle is $1,000. $500 of it is from NLG policies and $500 is from Ethos policies.$1000 x10% = $100 reserves | $50 from the NLG and $50 from Ethos policies. It will say $50 reserves from NLG and $50 reserves from Ethos.
This is an industry-standard. A Reserve balance protects your business from agents who resign or terminate and have a negative balance. That negative balance rolls up through the hierarchy. The reserve will act as the 1st barrier to paying off the debt. According to our industry, data has found that the average roll-up debt is about a thousand dollars per agent. A 10% Reserve will be automatically allocated from each agent's commission cycle. This entails setting aside 10% of your earned commissions into your reserve until it reaches the agent's contract level threshold stated below. This practice is crucial for the health of your business. Maintaining a reserve ensures your financial stability as an individual agent. It safeguards against unforeseen chargebacks that could otherwise disrupt your finances. This reserve acts as a safety net, offering you peace of mind. What is the reserve threshold per contract level?
$1k for SA and Below, $2k for MD, $3k for SMD, $5k for EMD, $10k for NVP, and $20k for SVP and AboveHow long does it take to receive the reserved 10% back?
To receive your reserved 10% back, you must wait 24 months. This allows time to clear any potential chargebacks that may arise post-termination or resignation.
How do we request the return of our reserves?
To request the return of your reserves, send a direct email to [email protected].

We’re dedicated to providing you with the tools you need to succeed, which is why we’ve invested in an Agency Management System (AMS) that offers comprehensive tracking of your commissions, points, recruits, and more; all in one place. The Agency Management System (AMS) Fee is intended to cover the costs associated with providing these tools and services. GFI has made arrangements to prevent up-front costs to the agent by deferring the payment and drafting from their commissions. However, due to the continued increase in costs and rising expenses for access to these services, we must regularly evaluate and adjust our pricing. Please be aware that these changes may occur without prior notice. Currently, this is a monthly fee of $3.99. It'll appear as an adjustment labeled "Agency Management System Fee" on a commission statement following the month when the initial deposit was received and will continue monthly.
The Direct Deposit Fee is intended to cover the costs associated with processing the electronic payments. Currently, this is a monthly fee of $4.99. It'll appear as an adjustment labeled "Direct Deposit Fee" on a commission statement following the month when the initial deposit was received and will continue monthly.
SureLC requires an industry standard registration and appointment fee to utilize their system. The fee covers an agent's appointments to all platinum providers with SureLC. GFI has made arrangements to prevent up-front costs to the agent by deferring the payment and drafting from their commissions. However, due to the continued increase in costs and rising expenses for access to these products and services, we must regularly evaluate and adjust our pricing. Please be aware that these changes may occur without prior notice. Currently, this is a one time fee of $99 and will appear as an adjustment labeled "Platinum Provider Appointment Fee" on the commission statement. Max Advanced Commission AmountTo protect agents from potential hardships from chargebacks and safeguard the stability of their business, we implement commission caps on both our life and annuity businesses. This approach not only limits the risk of chargebacks but also ensures agents receive consistent payouts. Our cap levels and release schedules are designed to support agents' financial security and exceed industry standards. Thanks to our company’s high persistency rate and strong reputation, agents can leverage the opportunity for 100% advancement (annualization) on our policies and contracts (when approved by the carrier). In order to keep this possible, we must protect the company as well. Therefore we have implemented the following.
Annuities:
Commission will be released in $2 million segments until the contract’s total premium is met. After the initial commission is provided, the second segment will be released following the carrier’s free-look period, with subsequent releases occurring monthly thereafter. If any portion of the contract’s premium is surrendered, withdrawn, or taken for a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while still in the contract's chargeback period, 100% of the advanced commission will be charged back to the agent.Example of a $5,000,000 annuity contract:
Initial – Commission released based on the first $2,000,000
After Free Look – Commission released based on the next $2,000,000
1 Month Later – Commission released based on the remaining $1,000,000
Life Insurance (when premium is not paid annually):
The initial maximum advancement for any life policy is 30,000 points. The remaining commission will be equally divided and released during months 10, 11, and 12.Example of a 60,000 point policy:
Initial – Commission released based on 30,000 points
Month 10 – Commission released based on 10,000 points
Month 11 – Commission released based on 10,000 points
Month 12 – Commission released based on 10,000 points
Commissions Checks:
Depending an agent's contract level, they will be capped at a certain dollar amount for their commission checks. The company reserves the right to exceed the amount based on various factors and may include approval by the agent's upline. The amount over the cap will be held and released monthly up to the cap.SMD and Below Check Cap- $50,000
EMD and Above Check Cap- $100,000Example of a $115,000 commission check due to a Senior Associate on an Annually Funded Policy:
Initial – $50,000 Commission released
Month 2 – $50,000 Commission released
Month 3 - $15,00 Commission released
Please note: GFI and our carriers reserve the right to adjust the release amounts and timing based on individual agent factors, including experience, contract level, tenure with GFI, persistency, risk assessment, and their good standing status with GFI and regulatory entities.
